A short walk from the village of Monte Vidon Combatte lies the Macchia Pelagallo, an area of extraordinary naturalistic value that has belonged for centuries to the ancient Pelagallo family, historically linked to the area. This charming forest, nestled in the Aso Valley, represents a small “green lung” where time seems to flow slower.
Here, grows the English oak(Quercus robur), a species of oak now rare in the Marche region, which finds an ideal habitat in this area. The forest is also home to hornbeams, elms and maples, which provide a variety of colors and scents in every season: from the deep green of summer to the golden tones of autumn, to the mosses and mushrooms that dot the undergrowth in winter.
The moist, fertile soil is formed by deposits from the nearby Aso River, and its biodiversity has led the Marche Region to recognize Macchia Pelagallo as a Protected Floristic Area.
Today, the area, although used for private hunting purposes, retains all its wild and unspoiled charm, offering a perfect setting for relaxing walks, nature hikes and mountain bike routes among nature, silence and historical memory.
